AVATANCEHICANEW: a work in progress, 2010, digital video
AVATANCEHICANEW: a work in progress deconstructs AVATAR as a fantasy re-imagining Native Americans and Indigeneity as historic constructs existing in the future. Through the introduction of intercuts from films involving Native American depictions, AVATANCEHICANEW: a work in progress illustrates how AVATAR is simply a re-presentation of themes and scenes of already existing films centered around the American Mainstream notion of Indigeneity. The specific placement of the aforementioned intercuts disrupts AVATAR's narrative revealing the commodification of Native Americans, Native American culture and Indigeneity that exists beneath the surface of new technology.
